“Blackbear the Pirate” at Boombears Toy Store
PROJECT ROLES Display Concept & Design • Ship Construction & Painting • Graphic Design • Illustration • Copywriting
Boombears was a specialty retail toy store located in Beaufort, SC. The store featured a prominent front window, with rotating displays. Every July, the city has a Water Festival and has a cast of cheerful “Pirettes” to promote the event. To tie-in to this event, a pirate themed display window was designed to showcase Boombears’ toys, books, and games. The concept prominently featured the store’s wide selection of high quality plush bears – and one became dubbed “Blackbear the Pirate”. At the center of the display was a mock-up pirate ship designed with many levels and compartments for displaying products. Black and White newspaper advertising was created to coordinate with the theme and to promote the store during the event. At the time I was employed as a graphic designer for Boombears’ parent company.
- The ship was propped with plush toys, and other theme-related products.
- View seen looking in from the front window.
- Blackbear had a special flag for his ship.
- B/W newspaper ad promoted the display and the store.
